In modern practice, two different approaches to the maintenance of turbine equipment are used: maintenance as of regulations and as of condition.
As of regulations maintenance
As of regulations maintenance is the most common service option, the aviation is an example. If a part has a certain number of flight hours, it must be replaced with a new one, regardless of its condition. This ensures the reliability and safety of aircraft. The situation is the same in land transport, the operating instructions contain a list of routine maintenance and checks that must be performed after a certain period or mileage. As of condition maintenance
As of condition maintenance is a more complicated concept, but it has significant economic benefits. This is a continuous monitoring of the equipment operation mode keping many fparameters (for example, for a turbine, this is about 1500 measurements). As the parameters deviate from the allowable limit, the experts decide on corrective actions. To implement this concept, an automatic monitoring system with a large archiving depth should be implemented. It can be either a local system or a remote one.
Which approach to choose for maintenance of Siemens turbines
Nothing is perfect in the material world. The first approach provides the given reliability, but often entails extra material costs. The second approach saves big money, but requires additional equipment, special software and very qualified experts.
